When one of our clients is making a difference in the world, nobody is more proud of their impact than our team at Nearby Creative. For more than a year, we have been collaborating with Marinus Analytics, the Pittsburgh-based artificial intelligence company that is using AI to fight human trafficking.

Our friends at Marinus have been recognized for all of their hard, innovative work by being named as one of 10 global finalists for the prestigious IBM Watson AI XPRIZE, awarded to a company that can “develop and demonstrate how humans can collaborate with powerful AI technologies to tackle the world’s grand challenges.”

Our support and collaboration has ranged from software and database engineering to front end platform interface development, press and media relations, and messaging. We are excited to continue to work with the smart and big-hearted professionals making such a difference in the world.

Marinus Analytics’ flagship program is called Traffic Jam, a data solutions tool used by law enforcement to help parse the essentially endless volumes of data points that surround human trafficking and turn them into actionable intelligence. This actionable intelligence can be used to recover victims and start the process of prosecuting the people behind the human trafficking.

In 2019 alone, Traffic Jam was used by law enforcement in major metropolitan areas in the United States, Canada, England. More than 13,000 investigations were run through Traffic Jam, resulting in the identification of 3,747 victims.

UI/UX Support

Traffic Jam is just one of a variety of tools with similar goals being developed and deployed by Marinus Analytics. Our Nearby Creative team has contributed on the front and back end development and design of these projects. Our front end support included helping develop the user interface and user experience (UI/UX) for data tools, which help with functionality and make it easier to read and make use of the data. We have also provided some support that make programs mobile-friendly, which makes them more usable and extensible and helps clients use them more effectively.

Messaging and Public Relations

Our communications team has also been able to help Marinus Analytics to grow their impact by creating and distributing news release and handling media relations. These efforts involved honing and developing the narrative to make it newsworthy and broadly relevant, and then distributing and interacting with members of the local and national press to help the story reach the eyes of the general public. News coverage for Marinus Analytics has included coverage by WESA-FM, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, NextPittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Business Times.
