Nearby Creative provides tailored product development solutions for various local and national organizations. We touch many verticals in web, mobile, edutech, medtech, policing, AI, and social media. The contracts we’re focused on, currently, are for existing web products that require additional engineering support, maintenance, and feature development. We code in LAM(PHP) (Laravel) and MERN (Mongo, Express, React, Node) and AWS stacks—so, candidates that can cross between PHP to JS/React and know their way around AWS are ideally suited in our organization.

Skills and Expertise:

  • 7+ years of experience in full-stack development
  • Expert level experience with JavaScript, React, Node, HTML5 & CSS3
  • Experience in designing or delivering large scale web applications or frameworks
  • A real passion for crafting efficient, scalable UI/UX
  • Expert in building reusable web components and implementing complex forms
  • Excellent knowledge of responsive design techniques
  • Ability to write clean, scalable, and reusable code
  • Strong skills in web app performance optimization and cross-browser compatibility management
  • Understanding and appreciation of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Ability to work with backend engineers to design, build, and test reusable REST APIs
  • Working knowledge of version control systems such as Git
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Experience working in E-commerce companies
  • Experience with front end frameworks such as React/VUE/Angular
  • Experience with GQL or some other API orchestration layer
  • Secondary expertise in at least one other programming language, preferably Java or Kotlin
  • Experience with Spring Boot, Express, Grails, Rails, or other application frameworks

Nice to Have:

  • Willingness to travel to our office in Pittsburgh, PA to work closely with our engineering team in the early lifts - you can otherwise work remotely beyond onboarding and orientation.
  • Laravel and PHP expertise, outside our frontend Javascript positions - many of our clients and products have PHP code bases.
  • You code the internet like breathing air, and enjoy learning and trying new things.
  • Comfortability playing a lead technical voice, as these early projects will require you to be responsible for code while interacting with various stakeholders internally (Engineering Director and Project Manager) and externally (Client Stakeholders)
  • Familiarity with Scrum/Agile processes and utilizing tools like Jira
  • Can provide regular availability during normal eastern standard business work weeks (9-5 M-F) - we are flexible within 1-3 hour time zone differences.
  • You’ve been caught asleep with your Macbook Pro at some point in your career.

What You Don't Have To Be:

  • A sys admin or AWS or Java guru (we have folks that can provide assists).
  • Chained to a desk, you’ll have flexibility to set your availability throughout the day. We do need a large portion of that availability to be at regular times our clients and us are generally at work though.

Full-Time Employment Opportunities:

Full time equivalent hours are required (30-40 hours/week). While this is a contract position to start, it may very quickly evolve into a full-time employment offer.
